Why it matters
Comments go in on Docket NRC-2026-0100 by 23 November 2026. The final environmental statement has to address what arrives in that window, and the licensing decision rests on the final one.
The NRC issued a draft environmental impact statement on Fermi America's combined license application for four AP1000 reactors, designated Project Matador Nuclear Units 1 through 4, at what the company calls the Project Matador Advanced Energy and Intelligence Campus.
Four units in one application is the unusual part. Most active US applications cover one or two, and a four-unit combined license puts a single environmental review in front of a build on the scale of Vogtle.
The draft weighs issuing the license against the no-action alternative of denying it, which is the standard pair. It decides nothing by itself. The comment window is where a supplier, a county or a competitor puts something on the record that the final statement has to answer.
The campus name is worth reading twice. An Advanced Energy and Intelligence Campus is a generation site built around computing load, so the reactors and their customer arrive in the same application.
What to watch
Comments close 23 November 2026. A combined license also carries a hearing and intervention opportunity and a separate safety review, so the environmental record is one of several places this application can be contested.
