DCD Revision 20 on April 6, formally encoding Vogtle Unit 4's as-built configuration as the standard AP1000 reference design. The 40-year certification renewal — if approved by end of 2026 — means every future applicant is replicating a reactor that already exists, not a paper design. Westinghouse tied Rev. 20 explicitly to the federal 400 GW-by-2050 target; the first COL filing under it will test whether that claim holds.

11 initial selections for its new Reactor Pilot Program, with a stated goal of achieving criticality in at least 3 test reactors by July 4, 2026. The program runs under DOE's own authorization authority — no NRC commercial licensing required — on DOE sites. A companion NRC proposed rule would let commercial applicants use DOE-generated operational data to accelerate their own licensing reviews, closing the loop intentionally.

The output: 208 pages, every claim anchored to source documents with citations built in. A subject-matter expert called it "consistent with what would be expected of a Revision 0 document."

South Korea — Saeul Unit 3 reaches first criticality
South Korea's Saeul Unit 3 APR-1400 achieved
first criticality on April 12, with commercial operation targeted for H2 2026. Four APR-1400s are already running in South Korea; four more at the UAE's Barakah plant. For US professionals: Korea is the benchmark for what consistent nuclear build cadence looks like. The APR-1400 is also the design that US utilities and developers benchmark their own PWR proposals against. Every Korean unit on schedule adds to the performance record the US doesn't have yet.
